History

S. R. Trust was established on 16th November 2011 in Vijay Nagar, Indore, Madhya Pradesh, as a non-profit organization with a vision to empower persons with disabilities (PwDs) through assistive technology, skill-based education, and community rehabilitation services. What began as a small initiative has now evolved into a dynamic and multi-faceted organization committed to inclusive growth and social development.

Key Milestone

2011 – Foundation and Registration

  • Registered as a Public Trust.
  • Initial focus on disability empowerment, early intervention, and mobility aid distribution.

2012–2015 – Expansion of Disability Services

  • Established a prosthetic limb fitting unit in partnership with local orthopedic experts.
  • Benefited hundreds of amputees, particularly those from underserved areas.
  • Conducted over 100 disability certification and health screening camps in rural and tribal regions in collaboration with government hospitals and district disability offices.
  • Facilitated access to government schemes like UDID cards, Divyang Pension Yojana, BPL benefits, and assistive devices.
  • Laid the groundwork for a community-based rehabilitation (CBR) model that would later gain recognition as a sustainable intervention.

2016 – Establishment of Skill Development Centers

  • Launched inclusive vocational training centers for differently-abled youth in trades such as:
    • Tailoring
    • Computer basics
    • Candle making
    • Paper bag manufacturing
    • Mobile repairing
  • Centers featured accessible infrastructure and adaptive learning methods to accommodate youth with locomotor, hearing, and mild intellectual disabilities.

2017 – Launch of Special Education Programs

  • Initiated individualized support plans (ISPs) for children with special needs.
  • Began operating special education units and a fully fledged residential school to bridge academic learning gaps and promote inclusive education.

 

2018 – Mental Health and Disability Awareness

  • Started awareness programs on autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and mental well-being.
  • Trained caregivers, school teachers, and Anganwadi workers on early detection and care practices.

2020–2021 – COVID-19 Relief and Resilience

  • Played a crucial role as a frontline responder during the pandemic.
  • Distributed:
    • Ration kits
    • Masks and immunity boosters
    • Provided tele-counseling support for distressed families.

2022 – Strengthening Community Programs

  • Scaled up activities in women empowerment, including:
    • SHG formation
    • Entrepreneurship training
    • Financial literacy workshops
  • Supported access to government schemes like Ladli Laxmi Yojana, Ujjwala Gas Scheme, and Kanya Vivah Yojana.
  • Trained women artisans in eco-friendly product-making, facilitating income through local fairs and exhibitions.

2023 – Education and Career Guidance Campaign

  • Enhanced the schooling and skill development facilities for Disabled students.
  • Conducted career counseling workshops to help youth make informed post-school decisions.
  • Ran community tuition centers and scholarship drives for underprivileged children.

2024 – Health, Environment & Rural Development Initiatives

  • Expanded health interventions, including:
    • Maternal health sessions
    • Anemia screening for adolescent girls
    • Sanitation awareness in slums and tribal belts
  • Promoted AYUSH and traditional healthcare methods in remote areas.
